Description

Things bound in Fairyland: Wings. Changelings. A Panther. Marids. One Heart. The Lonely Gaol. A Room Full of Clocks. The Way In. The Way Out.

The pygmy Wyverary (Wyvernus libris, ssp. parvus) is a very rare creature, infrequently sighted in the back stacks of the Municipal Library of Fairyland (see: The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland by Catherynne M Valente) and other great repositories of books both rare and curious. This specimen, perhaps the only one ever to have been bred in captivity, is the child of a scholarly young wyvern and a small home library of fantasy and classical literature. It is still a juvenile, as can be seen by its diminutive size, tiny horn bumps, unobtrusive coloring, and the softness of its covers. Like many juveniles of mythic beasts, it has not yet decided which gender it will ultimately align itself with, and expresses a wish to be referred to by the neuter pronoun.

In accordance with the laws of Fairyland, the wyverary’s wings remain chained to prevent it from flying, but it has befriended a very kind jeweled key which allows it to undo the lock and stretch its pages to keep them from growing crookedly. It will remain happiest if kept among other books, and safe from small children and household predators, and unlike its full-sized cousins it has no need of standard sorts of nourishment. It will thrive on a diet of words, obtained either from books and other printed materials around it, or from the pen of a gentle owner.

Tech specs:
The cover and body are made of wool felt, with bead accents and a wire structure that provides limited mobility to the head and legs. The wings are genuine parchment, with acrylic/mohair yarn embellishment. The wyverary’s legs move freely and independently of each other and its tail functions as a bookmark. There are 240 pages of recycled brown paper bound firmly between its wings for your writing convenience, plus a few extra half-sheets that are not yet fully grown. The padlock and chains hold the book pages shut while not in use to avoid wear and tear, and the wyverary will come with two spare keys of modern manufacture in case the jeweled one goes missing.
